Is Your Company Too Small For Social Media?

scaling-a-business-300x200Often, when meeting with a prospective client, I’ll be asked the following question: “Is my company too small for social media?”

The simple answer is…NO! Social media is actually leveling the playing field between large and small businesses. Any company, regardless of its size, can cost-efficiently reach its targeted demographic. If your company is B-to-C, and you are not leveraging social media you are most probably leaving revenue on the table. Companies that are B-to-B have the never before opportunity of building their brand and driving potential customers to wherever their products are sold.

Don’t be missing the party! There are 7 billion people in the world. 2 billion of those are on Facebook, which is greater than all the inhabitants of India! If Facebook were a country, its population would rival the single most populous country on Earth. Staggering statistic!

Social media allows any business to closely target its key demographic in a way that traditional media never allowed. An example would be a local restaurant that is advertising on the radio. One can safely assume that it would be reaching listeners who live too far from its location and would be unlikely to ever make the long trip to its doors from their homes. There are too many other restaurants in between. With Facebook, you can reach possible customers within a geo-targeted area surrounding your restaurant or business. You can target male/female, specific ages, and align your proposition with their known preferences.

If your prospective customers are connected with your competition, they can be targeted. With traditional marketing vehicles it is very difficult to gauge ROI. You can now track where your followers come from by properly using Bitly links.

OK, so hopefully you’ve realized that your company is not too small for social media. How do you move forward? Again, I’m often told “I don’t have the time to dedicate to social media” Agreed. Particularly in smaller businesses everyone already has too many responsibilities, so adding even more is simply out of the question. This is where your trusted social media agency can offer a cost effective, multi platform social media plan dedicated to your specific business needs. Engaging an outside social media source that has the expertise to successfully implement a cross platform social media program, will allow the people in your business to continue to focus upon what they do best.
